A week of wows and weeps
On Wednesday, Adam and I had the pleasure of attending Westminster for a Brain Tumour Research reception, aimed again at addressing the issue of historical government underfunding towards brain tumour research. I must admit, this was a bit of a "wow" moment, standing within beautiful Speakers House, listening to John Bercow speak so passionately about the cause and hearing Big Ben chime in the background. It was also an incredibly emotional evening, listening to the stories of other bereaved families, emulating the pain in which I also feel. At the event, I met Will from Brainstrust for the first time and was overwhelmed to hear the plans that they have for the use of Steve's fund. I am so thrilled that Steve's legacy will live on through the charity's work and look forward to revealing their plans soon for the money that you have all so generously donated over the past 2 years. Steve would hugely approve of their plans and knowing this, made we very weepy! The weeping did not stop even when I met Debbie McGee! She was incredibly sweet to me when I stopped her upon leaving to tell her, that like her, I had also lost my husband last year. I wanted to offer her some kind of words of support and understanding but instead, she offered me a shoulder to cry on! She was very sweet and also is incredibly petite!! The evening came to a close with an update from the Chair of the task and finish group, who hope to publish their report on funding sometime in the summer - we hope for the exciting and deserving news that the Government will provide additional funding towards brain tumour research. We await in eager anticipation. In the meantime, we will continue to raise money and awareness and there are some wonderful supporters taking part in some very demanding physical challenges over the forthcoming months in memory of Steve - thank you and good luck in particular to Sarah Schofield who is running the MK marathon in May and Adam, Richard and George, plus others, who are taking part in a 123mile cycle ride in July. We are also starting to make plans for the annual summer afternoon teas and the Hills & Headwinds ball taking place in October. Check out the events page for more details of these. Finally, today marks exactly 2 years since I rushed Steve to hospital,
where he was later that day found to have a mass on his brain. Little did I know then, the journey that we would embark on. How can 2 years seem a lifetime ago, yet go by in a flash? All I can say, is that I have learnt to live for today and am thankful for tomorrow x
